Someone To Watch Over Me … and you.

The last week has been tough for Kat and I, although admittedly tougher for her. Since I brought her to L.A., the air here has not been a friend to her respiratory system. This past week she came down with a sinus infection, which made her miserable and caused her to sleep fitfully. It’s been hard for me watching my wife suffer through this. I’ve had more than a few sleepless nights, where I stayed awake just watching her as she slept. I want her to know that even if she is feverish and sometimes a bit disoriented, I’m watching over her and caring for her. Call me incredibly sappy, but I love my wife so much I’m willing to lose sleep so that she can have that sense of security.

I’m just a guy who loves his wife very much. Now imagine how much more God cares for each one of us. Psalm 121:4 says, “Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.”

I have to sleep eventually, but not God. His watchcare over us is never-ending, never-tiring, ceaseless and eternal. In fact, God is willing to give up much more than sleep for you and I. He gave up His own Son so that you and I could have a security that is so much greater than a wife knowing her husband is watching over her. Jesus died so that you and I could have the security of knowing that through Him we have eternal life.

Maybe you too have trouble sleeping, for whatever reason. I hope you’ll be able to take comfort knowing that — to paraphrase a Gershwin tune — there’s Someone to watch over me … and you.
